about me
Hi,
thanks for visiting my website.
My name is Jule Aufdembrinke. I'm a senior in industrial design, currently working on my final thesis at the Art School Berlin Weissensee.
As you can probably guess, I'm very passionate about design and beautiful things in life. Based in Berlin, I love to travel and study in various countries, play basketball, meet new people, cultivate friendships, and laugh every day!
In addition to the 'traditional' industrial design, I'm very interested in interaction design, graphics and animation and I love to implement these into my design whenever possible.
Please feel free to contact me at any time, your opinion is highly appreciated!
freerunning concept for reebok
project 1 of 5
This is my concept for a freerunning shoe which I did during my internship at Reebok in early 2010.
Freerunning is similar to Parkour, but not exactly the same. Parkour is the art of movement - which means getting from point A to point B in the most efficient and shortest way, whereas freerunning is a training discipline of Parkour and it has more gymnastic elements involved.
In order to understand all elements involved in this sport, I met up with Team Tempest, a group of awesome guys, who are all professional freerunners and stuntmen living in LA. They taught me a lot about their passion for the sport as well as how the perfect freerunning shoe should look and perform.
For my design I chose to make the shoe very lightweight using a lot of mesh. It has a thin but protective outsole which reveals a graphic underneath the forefoot the more you wear down the sole. It functions as a graphical reward for hard training sessions as well an indicator that the shoe should be replaced soon.

"hål" crayfish cutlery - IKEA design competition
project 2 of 5
Every year in August, Sweden is enjoying traditional crayfish parties.
To eat those tiny crayfish, it requires a lot of time, patience and skills.
My idea was to design a wooden cutlery tool that could assist people succeeding in this task and eliminate the need for scissors or sharp knives.
My design "hål" (swedish: hole) won the 1st prize at the IKEA foundation design competition in 2008 and was published in md magazine in the category 'awards' (09 / 2008).

combine - health drink packaging concept
project 3 of 5
This project was a collaboration with packaging company IMPRESS / France. IMPRESS was looking for a new product concept within the wellness / health market for beverages.
My only concern was:
I don't believe in health drinks!
Health drinks to me are either good looking, tasty smoothies, which often taste too sweet for me to trust in a real vitamin boost - or - nutritious supplements from the pharmacy, which I trust in terms of the amount of vitamins inside, but there's no delicious refreshment to them.
So, why not combining these two things? A good looking fruity drink AND a vitamin boost, as well as combining a vibrant color with pure pharmaceutic information.
The bigger bottles contain the fruit juice and are labeled with an oversized outline of the fruit. The smaller container has the pharmaceutic vitamins inside and is labeled with its molecular formular.
IMPRESS liked this concept so much that they bought the licensing rights.
illuminating canopy - group work with Honorata Poznanska
project 4 of 5
Group work with Honorata Poznanska.
Today catering events often take place in huge entrance halls or other spaces with high ceilings. As a human being, you can feel quite lost and unprotected in such places. The idea of this project was to create a canopy that gives you shelter and allows people to gather underneath it.
There is a pattern milled in the material with a plasma foil layered on top. The foil is connected to a noise sensor, so the more people chat underneath the canopy, the brighter the foil lightens up. This creates different light atmospheres according to the level of activities in the room, guided by people's actions.
Sustainable beehive - group work with Annalisa Koch
project 5 of 5
Group work with Annalisa Koch at the IKDC in Lund, Sweden
"If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, mankind will follow within four years"
Albert Einstein
We don't always have to shoot for rescuing polar bears, whales or other huge mammals if we want to save the environment. The good actions for sustainable living can start right outside our doors.
Beekeeping is such an activity. Not only are bees a crucial part to maintain the health of our plants and flowers and eventually our entire ecosystem, but honey bees also provide us with high quality sugar (in times where everything unfortunately gets replaced with corn syrup).
Beekeeping seems to be a leisure time activity for retired people, mainly men. Why is that? Why can't it be attractive to younger people? We met with swedish beekeepers who taught us what's important in beekeeping, and after weeks of research we came up with our own solution that got exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2009.
